DiDi Jewellery and The Castle Ruins

posted on 4 July 2011 | posted in Blog

If you are a Harry Potter fan you'll be wishing you were in Bungay this July! This year's summer festival has a Harry Potter theme (all of the books were printed here in Bungay, amid the kind of secrecy and intrigue found in the books themselves) and part of it is our own version of the famous shopping area, Diagon Alley.

A selection of stalls selling all sorts of magical things will be set up within the castle ruins on the same day as the Antiques Street Fair that sees thousands of people coming into Bungay in search of a bargain, thronging Earsham Street and spilling out into Castle Meadow.

The castle was owned by the Duke of Norfolk, Roger Bigod, during the reign of Henry II, with whom he fell out big time, losing all of his castles, including that in Bungay to the monarch. Bungay' castle is (unlike that at Framlingham) a ruin and it is within the castle keep area that our magical market will be held. We are calling ours Biagon Alley. (Diagon/Bigod/Bygone!).

I will be there some fun jewellery I have been making especially for it - owl pendants, potions pendants, Harry Potter and medieval themed charm bracelets, winged key phone charms and golden snitch bag charms. Oh and stretchy bracelets in the Harry Potter house colours. I also had fun practising my bead stitching techniques and made a Slytherin bracelet:

I know we're not supposed to like Slytherin (HP's deadly enemies) but I do like their silver and green house colours!

There are so many events going on during the 3-week festival that it promises to be a very busy July!
