Leaping Flames Beadwork Necklace (BW112)
I made one of these Bargello (named for a zigzaggy needlepoint pattern) once before, in pinks and silvers which sold pretty quickly at a craft fair. So when I hit upon the idea of making some fire-inspired jewellery (to commemorate our town's 330th Great Fire anniversary) this pattern was an obvious choice. I confess the pattern is not mine - it was designed by Rebecca Peapples and published in a US beadwork magazine, so hats off to Rebecca for the design.
I've used three shades of delica seed beads (the best seed beads you can buy!) in brick red, darkest red and a sort of antique gold, with drops in a complementary colour at each point. The clasp is my own design - it is a squared button fashioned in beadwork which passes through a loop with some of the drops featured.
The necklace is 18" (460mm) long and looks fabulous on.
