Poppy jasper - a much much darker red than the bright red poppies that grow around here - is a gorgeous variety of jasper. I love it - the patterning reminds me of a deep red upholstery leather - understated and classy.
This necklace uses smooth flat poppy jasper ovals teamed with little cubes of the same stone with sterling silver saucer beads topping and tailing each of the ovals.
It is said that poppy jasper encourages a deep connection with the life of the Earth and was used by warriors in the Middle Ages to promote courage in battle. It is supposed to bring joy and happiness - it certainly did to me when I was making it!
The clasp, a geometrical shape, is handmade in fine silver (with a higher percentage of silver content than sterling) by the Karen Hill Tribe in Thailand and complements the necklace perfectly.
The necklace is 19.5" (495mm)long.
