Lapis Lazuli and Angelite Necklace
Sorry - now sold!
Did you know that lapis lazuli - treasured since ancient times - is actually a composite mineral, made of several other minerals including azurite (the gorgeous blue, used by the Old Masters to colour the Virgin's robes), calcite (white) and pyrite (gold) among others?
These lovely facetted coin shaped lapis lazuli beads have all three of these minerals in evidence but it is the blue of the azurite that makes them so stunning. I've teamed them with opaque pale blue angelite and knotted them all onto blue silk.
The lapis lazuli is 14mm, the angelite is 6mm. The necklace itself is 19.5" (500mm) long and fastens with a Karen Hill Tribe silver* toggle clasp.
*Karen Hill Tribe silver is handmade by artisan silversmiths in Thailand and has a higher pure silver content (95%-99%) than sterling (92.5%). I buy it directly from them through a fair trade scheme.
