Garnet and Glaucophane Necklace (LS61)
Who here has heard of glaucophane? No, me neither until I came across these gorgeous beads and read up on it. It is a silicate mineral, in the same group as jadeite, rhodonite, prehnite, topaz and many other semi-precious stones, including garnet.
So I thought I'd put the glaucophane together with garnet, but not just the regular garnet we all know and love. This garnet is opaque red and green garnet, all mottled together. The garnet in the necklace is the 10mm flat round beads, the glaucophane is 14mm x 14mm, drilled on the diagonal.
I've included a close-up so you can see the different shapes and colours in these lovely beads. EAch one is different with shades of blue, pink, grey and black in them. I've already spent hours gazing at their beautiful markings and I'm sure you will too.
I've knotted all of the stones onto garnet red knotting silk and fastened the necklace with a simple sterling silver toggle clasp.
The necklace is 19.5" (505mm) long.
