African Opals and handmade lampwork beads (LF06)
These unpolished opal nuggets have a translucence about them that reveals more depth the more you stare into them. They are teamed here with some lovely handmade lampwork beads made by Trudi from the Fyrebirds.
I love mixing modern designs, wrought by artisan designers using heat and fire to shape and colour the beads, with semi-precious stones shaped in a similar fashion, but over thousands of years, formed from the earth itself.
Each of the flamework beads is spaced with a pure silver spacer bead, made by the famous Karen Hill Tribe silversmiths of Thailand.
Opals are said to be lucky only to those born in October - but my research shows that this was merely a marketing ploy! We can all enjoy these lovely stones!
The necklace is 18.5" (470mm) and finished with a twisted wire sterling silver toggle clasp.
